Tonight I did a major play test of the Epic level characters with Green Arrow, Batman, Flash and Aquaman. The players built them up for combat in a big way. In ways I would never have built them. It really maxed out the upper levels of the heroes and they really just waltzed through the play test downing Poison Ivy and a plant, Bizarro Batman and Bizarro Superman really quickly. I mean, it all made sense, but just wasn't very challenging. Looking at the rules we came back to the modifiers and Talents and bonuses to hit. The game system rewards good hits as a basis of damage. Using infinitesimal bonuses to jack up the chance to hit was just killing the targets. Again, it made sense with the characters, but ignored some things they can do in the comics. Maxing them out like that was actually really good because it reminded us on the Max rule in the book where you can only gain a to hit bonus from Powers, Talents and Modifiers equal to the Character's Ability. So an Ability 3 character can only ever get a +3 bonus to hit. The extra bonus can be used up with trick shots or shots on the fly, but the max bonus is 3 when the dice are rolled. I want this game to scale up and have the option of Basic characters encountering more powerful villains and not just being pasted outright. That's no fun. This balances that nicely.
Right now the last of the book is a list of 10 items I have to finish (including the instant adventure tables and one page combat). Everything is started, but just needs finishing. Then I have to make sure the layout and page numbers works out. As it looks right now the index won't appear in the beta document. I think that's a small price to pay to get the document in your hands sooner.
EDIT 2:30 pm March 8, 2016 After running this through a few tests I decided that the actual max bonus for attack and defense rolls will be +5. The Hero point bonus (+3) may be added above and beyond this effect.

Closing in on finishing my to-do list. Taking a night to look things over before I finish up the Random Adventure Tables. My to do list currently has less than ten things to do. The Combat on one page is giving me grief though. Grrr...

The Beta PDF has been out for a few days and I've been getting some feedback which has been very helpful. Some tweaks and changes have been made already and will continue as the editing process continues until the 27th of March when I start getting the document ready for general release. I apologize for needing the extra time, but the book ballooned a bit (in a good way) from 100 pages to 150 pages. I will be making a dedicated forum for game support, etc. on here soon. Hopefully, not a lot of errata.

Sooooo..... I've been going through my small assortment of HeroClix (got them free when I bought a box of MageKnight minis off of a friend)... Rather than just letting them go to waste, I'm starting to plan out an X-men campaign. I will be posting character conversions on my blog. Please note I'm taking artistic license here (since I'm not spending money on Clix) so some DC characters may find themselves in the Marvel Universe. I'm also changing up backgrounds a bit. First up is Professor X: cloudcraftsite.wordpress.com/2016/03/20/save-the-day-professor-x/

I was running a DC campaign and soon realized it was probably over-powered. This looks like an interesting way to do things.

I took True Sight off the cards, but left it in the description. It was replaced with Mastermind. Thanks for catching that! In the old days of play testing yore True Sight was a way to see through illusions, lies, invisibility, etc. I just fixed the Rulebook's write up for the mentalist.

True Sight was still in the beta creation rules set, but was removed from the final set.

I had Batman and Green Arrow and Superman and Aquaman all at Iconic Level. Which, is fine, but wow... Characters just dropped like flies. Green Arrow is amaze balls at Iconic Level, just incredible.
