Don't hold your breath, as some of my projects can take years, literally!... I have spent the past few weeks rearranging several rooms in the appartment, which involved replacing some cupboards and shelves. The old cupboards are made from the compressed chipboard stuff. For the backs, they had the board that is about 6mm/ΒΌ" thick, made from compressed wood dust/fibre. Since I recently got a table saw for chopping up old cupboards to make extra shelves for the new cupboards, I had the idea to use the backing board material for gaming tiles. When I put together the Darkfast Dungeons game pieces, I decided to just use regular cardboard for the floor tiles, so that they would get made and could play the game soon - If I had gone for something more elaborate, then it would never have been finished! The "raw material" The instrument of mass destruction! Some nice, neat 20cm/4" square tiles! I now have about a hundred or so tile bases. The next step is to decide how to decorate them. I had originally thought of sticking a dark brown, rough textured wall paper on them, but I think the glue will dry out and the paper will come off after some time. So, I may just paint them a dirty brown colour. But to find a paint that will adhere to the white coating on the top of the tiles - I want to keep the soft bare wood-fibre back, as it grps to the table better and won't scratch either. Great start though. I have projects where the materials are all gathered and not even step one started.
