@dave Have you heard about the plans for D&D Next? This month, IIRC, they will be releasing the Basic rules in a free PDF, and updating as further hardcovers & adventures are released. I can't claim to be an old schooler (although prior to last year I'd only played 2e in the late 80's - but I was a tween), but I've heard positive things from people who are and who've play tested it. I'll be picking up the starter box and downloading Basic, if only as a change of pace to Pathfinder Society Organized Play.

Of course, Darkfast Dungeons will be even more refreshing -- out-of-game, at least

I'm interested to see what they come up with, but I'm fine with 1st ed/ Labyrinth Lord. I'm pretty old school

Whoops! Actually meant to direct my D&D Next comment at craig ! I already know of your affinity for old school, David! It looks like my local games store, while overwhelmingly dedicated to MTG & WH40K, does in fact have D&D Encounters there too. I'm picking up the starter set & free basic rules more to prep me for that, than DMing a group myself, at least for the time being. For home, I'll be putting my papercraft to good use via Song of Fur & Buttons (later Song of Blades & Heroes), a couple of simple family friendly RPG rule sets I've picked up, and the forthcoming Darkfast Dungeons, which I've been looking forward to for a year now... Or however long you've been teasing us, like with your first dungeon sketches merely used in backgrounds to sell owlbears & the like

I'm a long-time wargamer and toy soldier fanatic. I got my introduction to paper minis from the Arnold Arnold "Book of Paper Soldiers" back in the late sixties. My mom encouraged me to draw and color my own soldiers, asnd i did so until I could afford to buy airfix and later lead figures. I'm 58 now, and though I still like to paint minis, I enjoy the ease of printing and cutting out a few paper minis to try new rules and game settings. I also use paper minis for projects that I KNOW I will never be able to paint up, such as a huge Waterloo Campaign game for next year, using the old TSR rules Tricolor. for that I am using figures from Patrick Creasau, Junior General and an Italian gentleman whose name escapes me......
I am currnetly building the Retro Sci-Fi figures, to use with the Cosmic Patrol RPG, from Drive-thru RPG.

In the time it takes for building and painting one or two minis you can get 20-30 done in the same time.

New user to the forum here. I'm a wargamer as well as RPG gamer. I just bought several Okumarts Darkfast Dungeons fantasy cardstock mini files form DriveThruRPG and pretty excited about them.
The big advantage I see with cardstock is that if the artwork is attractive enough (as the Darkfast Dungeons line definitely is), that it will look as good/better than most metal miniatures (especially unpainted or poorly painted ones) while being infinitely more portable and less shelf-space dependent.
