Hi Okum Arts: Gosh I do not understand the Knockback Damage rules. Can someone please explain it with an example? John T> Sorry for the delay in replying. Life suddenly got super busy. OK, Knockback. As you know knockback happens when damage exceeds the Target's Ability score unless it's like a Ballistic weapon such as a gun, arrow, laser, etc. Flying characters also take 2x Knockback. For every TWO points of damage a character takes ABOVE their Ability they are knocked back 1 inch/square/5 feet. So a character with 3 Ability hit with an energy blast that did 10 points of damage is knocked back 3 inches (round down). Knockback Damage. Simply take the number of squares and divide by two. For every two squares (round down), the target takes 1 point of damage PLUS the roll of 1d6. This damage number is rolled against with a standard Ability Check. Damage is calculated as usual subtracting the Ability Check result from the Knockback Damage roll. If the Damage Roll is higher than the Ability Check then that is that damage taken. In the above example the target moved 3 inches. Halved, the result is 1. Add 1d6 (result of 5) for a total of 6. The Ability check is 3 +1d6 (result of 2). The difference is 1 in favour of the Knockback so only 1 point of damage is taken. This is soaked up by a Rank of the Toughness Talent. It might be good to do a video explaining these concepts at some point. I tried it without halving the number of squares and it was just like... SUPER DEADLY! A few Batman vs Superman battles ended quickly as Batman was knocked back into oblivion. Giving Batman Acrobatics really helped though. Acrobatics negates the damage from Knockback unless the target is unconscious (which is what happened to poor bats).
