I can't get the photo black tank from my continuous ink system to seat properly in my Canon Pixma iP4830 any more, and I'm looking for a new printer. What's the best practice these days? Should I be looking at another continuous ink system and inkjet, or are colour lasers economical enough for heavy use? And what models do or don't print squares correctly?

I really loved my HP Photosmart, but it eventually broke down. My current Brother is nice, but clunky. Any suggestions for a new printer? I'm not exactly in the market, but I'd like to know what is out there that's reliable and efficient.

Is the black tank worn down, or has the Canon worn down where it would seat? If its the tank it might be easy to get a replacement tank for it if you really like the printer. See if they have what you need here: Ink products I always get great customer service from them. I love my epson xp-310 and continuous ink system that I got last July. I had a brother color laser for years but when it went out it was going to be $500 to get it going again. The fuser and belt were 129, the carriage was 129 or so and the ink was 250, so I decided to go back to inkjet. I only paid 69 for the Epson, then around 110 for the ink system. When the ink system came it was already primed and literally was plug and play. I also love that the cartridge bank has an ink level reset button on it so that when the page count on the printer figures that I should be out of ink, I just push the button and all of the carts read full again on the computer. It holds 320ml in the various tanks and I haven't had to fill it up yet. Oh and when I do, it'll only be around $45 to fill the tanks up again and I get beautiful prints. One of the big downsides I hated about my laser printer besides the expensive toner was that when I would score and fold the minis or terrain, the ink would flake off. Laser printers don't put the toner into the page, they just fuse it together on top of it. Having had both, I can safely say that I will never be buying a laser printer again. It isn't worth the expense. Hope this helped! Michael

The LED for the photo black tank only lights up if I press down on it with my fingers. I thought it was because the contacts may have been bent, but fixing that didn't help. There's a lot of physical play around where the photo black cartridge sits, and I suspect that the print head assembly is just getting loose. The printer is five years old. I suppose I could try to find an identical replacement, but the CIS tanks (especially the hose connections, and the tabs that snap the tanks into the print head) are getting worn, too.

Sounds like its just getting worn out all the way around. 5 years is a good run though!

When I bought the Canon, I vetted it against a blacklist of models that printed squares not quite square when you actually measured the edges with a ruler. Can anyone comment on current models that do or do not exhibit this problem?

Can anyone comment on current models that do or do not exhibit this problem? I haven't noticed this as a problem in the past. I have used a HP Photosmart and I am currently using a Brother MFC. Anyone else noticed this with a Canon printer?
